Day
Wine Tours
These are an excellent way
to get an overview of a region’s wines and the
different styles produced from various terroirs.
Weather permitting, we start the day with a short walk
in the vineyards, with a quick tasting to prepare the
tastebuds for the day ahead. The day will include
visits to three top producers, each with a different
philosophy but all making excellent wines. We will
also have time for lunch at a good local restaurant.
With wine of course!
Pick up will be from your accommodation or an agreed point
at 9am and you will be dropped back at around 6pm.
Accommodation is not included in day tours.
See below for a suggested itinerary for a day wine tour in

The Magic of
Minervois Day Tour
The vineyards of the Minervois stretch from the foothills
of the black mountains, from Carcassonne and east of the
dramatically situtated village of Minerve. Some of the best
wines in the Languedoc come from the Minervois,
particularly around the village of La Livinière.
We will start the day with a short walk in the vineyards
above the small wine village of La Livinière. Here the
higher elevation and longer ripening period result in
particularly fine red wines which reward ageing.
The first visit of the day will be to Chateau Sainte
Eulalie.
Set in a
beautiful little valley, this go-ahead domaine is owned
by the energetic Isabelle Coustale. Her top red,
Cantilène, has won numerous awards.
From there we take a short drive to Massamier la
Mignarde, an historic property where
wine has been made since Roman times. More recently,
their flagship red wine, Domus Maximus, was awarded the
accolade ‘Best red wine in the world’ at The
International Wine Challenge in London. We will taste
their extensive range of wines in the old cellar where
vast old ‘foudres’ or oak barrels line the walls.
Lunch will be at
the Lo Cagarol restaurant in the pretty village of Aigne,
famous for its spiral ‘escargot’ lay out.
After lunch we will pass by Minerve, dramatically situated
on the Cesse and Brian Gorges and scene of a blood siege in
the 13th Century. The last visit of the
day will be to Chateau Coupe Roses
in La Caunette.
Francoise and Pascal Frissante are justifiably proud of
their wines and of their unique terroir and delight in
explaining their philosophy to visitors. An entertaining
and enlightening end to the day.
